What To Expect At Your Raleigh In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

To help you decide on the best window treatments for your windows, some companies, like Sunburst, start out with an in-home consultation. By bringing samples to your home, we can present how different window treatments would look with your decor. You’ll see how simple it is to discover the best window treatment when you leave the artificial surroundings of a showroom.

But what happens during an in-home consultation? And how will showing you different products at your home enable you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Sunburst regularly performs these in-home consultations, and here’s what you should expect at your visit.

Walking Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Begin by making an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already can picture the perfect coverings for you window, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make a special note to show you some options available for your preferred product. We will also bring additional treatments, so you can be sure that your choice matches your vision.

When we arrive, we’ll sit down and discuss what you are looking for in a window treatment. We’ll look at your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency ideas, and we’ll ask about hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your consultant will also ask about how the room is used and what ambiance you are trying to acheive. And it’s alright if you don’t know exactly what you want, as we’ll show you multiple options.

That may require going through different window treatments to discover which treatments match your interior design and protects your windows. Most people need to try out a few different product lines, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or choosing the best stain to match the room. We’ll also demonstrate all the options available for the covering, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once you make your pick, we’ll take the exact measurements of your windows. We generally measure the windows in each room—even if you only need to fit treatments for some of your windows. We get multiple measurements because most of our clients want to order future window treatments quickly. At the end of the appointment, we will thoroughly explain the detailed, written quote, so there are no phantom numbers on your invoice.

Signs Of A Bad In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are confident that Sunburst will carry out an easy and enjoyable in-home consultation, there are some actions you should never see from any window treatment rep. After all, the quality of the consultation mirrors the quality of the product.

Primarily, your rep should treat your home with respect. They should come to your house on time, with all samples requested, and offer to cover their shoes with shoe booties. Your representative should always give you product and company pamphlets and pricing details.

When discussing pricing, you should be given a complete written quote. Don’t accept a guesstimate, scrawled on a product brochure or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing estimates before they take any window measurements. You want to understand how much the final bill will cost you. If a quote ever seems too good to be true, don’t be afraid to ask for references and check the company’s online reviews.
