New Year, New Window Styles and Raleigh Design Trends

January 11, 2017

This time of year is a great time to shake up your interior fashion and window treatments with the best new styles of 2017. From painting your family room, to buying new window coverings or changing out accessories, we have tips on what’s in vogue in 2017 for interior fashion and window treatment trends in Raleigh.

Dusky Colors & Pastels

Both pastels and dusky colors are trending while clear, vibrant colors are on the wane. Shades of cooler colors like blues and grays are especially popular in addition to muted hues of pink, blue, and yellow. Many hues on the palette are evocative of nature from sky blue to “Greenery”, Pantone’s color of the year. Neutral tones are still found in the color spectrum with whites, grays and darker browns giving balance to other colors.

Painting most of your walls in a neutral tone and then adding in pops of color through feature walls, accessories, and small furnishings might be one of the easiest things you can do to revamp the color in your home. Then it’s a cinch to use the latest colors in your home today and swap the accessories out when color schemes vary down the road. For more color inspiration, check out Behr’s colors trends for 201

When considering new window treatments, pick those in neutral colors such as Polywood® plantation shutters in white or a wood-like stain. These will go beautifully with any style or color scheme and can stay in place when you swap room colors down the line.

Natural Textures

Natural textures aren’t going anywhere this year. Fibers that are hot include weaved material in rugs or baskets, knotted wood, and twine. Designers are finding these textures showing up in new places such as on furniture, headboards, and art work. Add new life into an old belonging with a small touch such as wrapping a frame in twine or making an interest piece out of old wood.

Adding textures to your home through window treatments add another level of style to your décor. Reclaimed wood shutters are built from historic, knotted wood that was once part of doors or structures. The wood has unique grains and divots that bring an organic feel to your home. Other window treatments that bring texture into your home include Ovation® wood shutters or natural woven shades.

Metals

Interior design motifs that incorporate a variety of metals are becoming popular across Raleigh. Wrought iron, brass, and nickel are especially popular this year. You can incorporate metals in your décor by finding industrial, rustic, and/or retro pieces such as bar stools, chairs, or light fixtures that are built from metals. Also, don’t hesitate to utilize nickel or pewter in your sinks or hardware for a more contemporary aesthetic.

Sliding barn doors and barn door shutters are a great way to get the visual benefit of metals and add an industrial or rustic look to your room. Barn doors are constructed from solid wood and are available in a wide array of hardware such as rollers, tracks, and pull handles made from different metals.
